With the smoking ban, pubs have the opportunity to attract huge numbers of new customers for whom such establishments haven been ‘off limits’ until now, and these customers will be looking for a food offer combining speed and quality, says Kurran Gadhvi, marketing manager at Valera.
“This will be particularly true of the lunch-time trade where consumers are often time-pressured and, more often than not, looking to graze rather than sit down and eat a three-course meal,” he explained.
Pub caterers would need to consider high-power, plug-in microwaves with the pre-set programmable controls and single-touch operation “as these units will allow them to produce good food of a consistently high standard and with minimum user input.”
Gadhvi identified the Sanyo EMC1900 as particularly pub-friendly owing to its compactness, high power and affordability. “It can also be stacked, so as business grows a second oven can be place on top the first without taking up an more valuable counter-top space”.
